The Rankin Family
The Rankin Family, from Cape Breton, Canada, began performing at family parties. John Morris Rankin (piano, fiddle) and vocalists Cookie, Heather, Jimmy and Raylene Rankin began playing various folk festivals in 1989. The group released two independent cassettes, a self-titled debut album in 1989 and Fare Thee Well Love the following year. EMI signed the Rankin Family in 1992, re-released their first two albums, and issued North Country in 1993. Returning three years later with Endless Seasons, the Rankins issued Uprooted in 1998.
